How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders? And how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?
Written and read by NYT best seller Brené Brown, Dare to Lead answers these questions and gives us actionable strategies and real examples from her new research-based, courage-building programme.
Leadership is not about titles, status and power over people. Leaders are people who hold themselves accountable for recognising the potential in people and ideas and developing that potential. This is an audiobook for everyone who is ready to choose courage over comfort, make a difference and lead.
When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it and work to align authority and accountability. We don't avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into the vulnerability that's necessary to do good work.
But daring leadership in a culture that's defined by scarcity, fear and uncertainty requires building courage skills, which are uniquely human. The irony is that we're choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the same time we're scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines can't do better and faster. What can we do better? Empathy, connection and courage, to start.

Brilliant & ground breaking as usual!!
Brené Brown is more than just a writer, more than just a researcher. She is leading a revolution in what she has found in her research and what she teaches through books like this one.
This should be on the curriculum of every secondary school & tertiary institution worldwide, not to mention in every boardroom and office of every political representative, every principal’s bookshelf & every couple’s night stand! This book applies just as much to “leaders” in romantic relationships & families as it does in the world of business, education & politics. As I said in the heading, it is ground breaking. Thank you Brené Brown for your courage to bring this work to the public arena - and to be the woman in the arena inspiring all of us to lead and live in more effective, powerful ways!

A book for compassionate leaders
This book is brilliant and from one of the best story tellers I have listened to. Brene really brings you into her world and shows you what this idea of Daring to Lead is all about. If you are after a book that tells you what to do and is very instructional from a leader who's achieved it...go look somewhere else. This book is for people who want to be a part of a bigger story than themselves and who want to display change for others while showing the raw authentic journey that comes with it. Brene you've written another stunning book! I can't wait to listen again 😊

Helpful, practical, meaningful advice
I trained as a healthcare professional before pivoting and becoming a CEO. The criticality of meaningful and purposeful occupation and of empathy with others was central to my training and has turned out to be enormously helpful grounding for my leadership and management roles. However, there are gaps in my knowledge and skill set which I’ve struggled to fill through traditional executive education.
I am so pleased to have discovered Brene Brown’s work. She speaks the language of ‘people’ and if you want to lead a successful business your mission starts and ends with ‘people’. Brown’s work is full of excellent, insightful, super-helpful, very practical advice which can immediately be applied. There are free (yes - free!) resources on her website to help the leader and your team, which as a ‘get shit done’ leader who runs a non-profit, I am incredibly grateful for.
I started my excursion into Brown’s work with this audible book and it was a great idea. Brown is so human and listening to the author share her insights, the results from her research, and her own stories of learning and applying the techniques she espouses helped me to connect with them. I’m also a time-stacker so being able to listen to the book in intervals of time while doing other things meant I powered through it in 2 days. The last thing I did yesterday was purchase the paperback for my 2iC.
Thanks Brene - I look forward to putting these techniques to work. 👍🙏😀
