Beautifully written and voiced creepy novella

Would you consider the audio edition of Danse Macabre to be better than the print version?

I'm really glad I listened to this as an audiobook – Nigel Peever's rich voice and strong performance really brought the characters to life. I could have probably done without the musical interludes, since I'm not a fan of music in audiobooks, but they were very short and not so intrusive, so on the whole I didn't really mind. It reminded me a little of being told a creepy story late at night by the light of a camp fire… would be a perfect read for Halloween!

What other book might you compare Danse Macabre to, and why?

I don’t often read novellas or horror stories, so I was branching into new territory with this, but I’m glad I did. This story was beautifully written and wonderfully creepy, with enough mystery and darkness to keep me intrigued and drawn through to the end.

Which character – as performed by Nigel Peever – was your favourite?

I loved the discussions between the gossiping children at the start, these were so well performed, and he gave them such authentic accents that they felt very real.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was quite a short book, so it would be easy to listen to in one sitting if you wanted to – I had to listen in several to fit around my schedule, but that was fine too!
