About this listen
A new kind of Breed is faced with what happens when destiny and desire collide in the latest novel in the highly charged series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh.
A decade ago Katy Chavos was a proud misfit who had her heart broken, crushed by a man who drew her close with one breath and pulled away the next. He left a mark she’s done everything in her power to erase. But when Katy’s job brings her back to the hometown she couldn’t wait to escape, seeing Dane again awakens something inside her that won’t be tamed....
Dane Vanderale isn’t like other Breeds. As a hybrid he’s stronger, more primal, and more determined to hide it. He’s also certain that Katy is not his mate—not that that stops him from wanting her with every part of his soul. He knows he hurt her deeply and he intends to make things right, but she is dead set on keeping him at arm’s length.
Despite their painful history, Katy can’t deny the intense attraction she still feels for Dane. And before long, it will be impossible for either to deny the truth that has been in front of them all along....

Good narration but Dane needs a kick.
AUDIBLE
Good narration but Dane still needed a good kick in the pants.
Just a pity it has taken so long to get another Breeds story, especially due to the fact this series is what earned this author her accolades and fans. Her earlier books are very entertaining, the newer stuff, not so much.
I thoroughly enjoyed this Breeds story and the way it unfolded, with even newer and more divergent Breeds being revealed. Plus, we get more surprising information in regards to the history and origins of the Breeds.
On to this book.
Dane, I was disappointed in him.
Dane is so cruel to Katelyn at the beginning in his ignorance, or maybe it was the fact he was still blinded by Harmony.
His belief that he wasn’t feeling mating heat was silly, as he knows that it is unknown and unproven in regards to Hybrids.
Katelyn was brilliant and I found her strong, likable and what we learn about her heritage is fantastic.
Basically taking us right back to the original history of the Breeds.
But she never calls Dane out on his behaviour, or gets any apology or grovelling from him.
Though I understood Dane’s thinking in protecting all the Breeds, I felt he never truly showed his love for Katelyn.
He, in fact, nearly causes Katelyn’s death to be truthful. Unforgivable. And I still didn’t feel he truly loved Katelyn at the end.
Yes, we have been told in previous books that mating heat always leads to feelings and love always comes. But I wanted to FEEL Dane’s emotions towards Katelyn.
We finally get a mention of the winged breeds from SO long ago. Pity, but that is all we get, a very brief snippet.
Graeme was so entertaining in this and I found Katelyn delightful.
A great instalment in the world of the Breeds and I hope Ms Leigh continues the impetus for this series, as so many stories still need to be told. Rhys, to name one, is long overdue.
Plus, she’s left us with quite a bit of a cliff-hanger in this one.
SPOILER
The big reveal to the public about Mating Heat has happened.
Some of the Original Alpha’s, of which there are apparently 14, all sets of twins from 7 different species, are spoken off.
Leo is one of the Original Alphas, and his twin brother who we don’t meet, have come out to the public, as well as Elizabeth.
All the Breeds around the world are now in hiding. and we have no idea of how things will go in public opinion.
Not to mention the THREE MAD KINGS, the TRUE beginning of the BREEDS, come out into the open. And wasn't that a kick.
REREAD
I wanted to read this again as I’ve read the Breeds series through many times.
Still find it lacking relationship, communication, apology and love.
Really needs an epilogue for Dane to show his love, after a major grovelling apology first.
Plus the whole ending is fairly abrupt.

Brilliant
This book was so worth the wait for Dane’s story. Dane such a silly man denying what should be theirs but when he finally realises it might be too late. The breeds are at a crossroads and the future is looking uncertain there are many choices to be made and secrets revealed and amongst all this Katy and Dane crash head on into their future whose direction is just as uncertain as the Breeds. I love this series of books and I highly recommend them. I am also keenly waiting the next instalment, oh please let there be more there are still so many stories to tell.
