Great writing and narration, but didn’t hook me in
Graham Greene’s writing is wonderful, and the narration for this version is exceptional. Despite loving some of his other books, this one failed to capture me. I didn’t enjoy spending time with the main characters or particularly care where they ended up, and the characterisation of the young girl was jarring for me.

I just finished a classic
I'll be thinking of this for a while much as I did Camus The Fall.
A recent film adaptation of this was driven by the film maker falling in love with Rose's character, my feelings were mixed, I certainly felt for her. Ida too and the dichotomy between them as an example of biblical good vs good character good.
The mark against the performance is personal, I didn't always enjoy his reading.

A black comedy let down by flat characters
I struggled with this one a bit. It wasn't until I realised it was a black comedy that it all suddenly made sense. Still, the characters were a bit flat for me to really enjoy it.

Full on, and terrific!
I really liked this book, but it wasn't an "easy read." The story is quite bleak, but is so detailed and in-depth that it keeps you going strongly throughout.

More sinister than I remember but very Graham Greene
More sinister than I remember but very Graham Greene - a masterpiece with one of the best, most memorable first and last sentences.
