About this listen
Rachel Lacey, author of Stars Collide, serves up a steamy tale of Hollywood fame and subterfuge about a glamorous actress and the sexy bodyguard posing as her girlfriend.
Natalie Keane is one of Hollywood’s top leading ladies, but she’s paid a steep price for her fame. After she was stalked eight years ago, the ensuing media frenzy almost broke her. So when a new threat arises, Natalie agrees to extra security, but she wants to keep it under wraps. The last thing she needs is another tabloid spectacle, especially during awards season.
Taylor Vaughn has made a career as a bodyguard to the stars, but an injury has kept her sidelined for the past three months, jeopardizing her future in the job she loves. When an opportunity arises to work for Natalie Keane, Taylor jumps at the chance—even before knowing the details of the assignment.
From the moment they meet, Natalie knows this could work: Taylor, the bodyguard, masquerading as her girlfriend. The perfect cover story. But as circumstances push the two women closer, the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur.

Great narration and a really entertaining story
I have been in a but of a slump and not getting into the audiobooks I've listened to lately. Until this book. I really enjoyed it and stayed up waaay too late listening to it. Then back into it forst tjing when I forced myself yo get some sleep. Quinn Riley did a great job narrating it too.

So boring
This story was so tedious, there was little chemistry or anything to keep you interested. Do not recommend.

Two and a half stars
While Cover Story started on the straight and narrow to become an entertaining read, it took a wrong turn around the half way mark and got stuck on the highway to the dreaded Whomp Whomp, at which point I ceased caring.
I had no attachment to the characters—if their physical appearances were described it went well and truly over my head because I have no idea what they were supposed to look like apart from being a brunette and a bottle blonde, and I envisioned Taylor as Princess Scorpia which was funny but probably not what Rachel Lacey was aiming for—or the plot which was a flop for me, and while I'm not one for the bodyguard trope I thought it might be more appealing when applied to a sapphic relationship. It was not. Not even the fake dating aspect could save this one for me. I know, right?
There were a couple of good things about this book: a main character has PTSD which is explored for the duration of the book as it's a major part of the plot, another main character has recurring injury which they seek help for, a side character has a physical disability and said character is not infantilised (nor are they only there for representation kudos), and there is positive queer representation throughout.
There are also two whole dogs AND a kitten, which were probably the best part of the book in my opinion.
I'm not saying I'll never read a Rachel Lacey book again, but I'm not inclined to give another one a shot anytime soon.
If you're looking for a sapphic read to keep you entertained this pride month and beyond, there are much better options out there—unless you froth over the bodyguard trope and love a fake relationship. Then this might be the perfect book for you.
