Born in 1927 in the Deep South, Coretta Scott always felt called to a special purpose. After an awakening to political and social activism at college, Coretta went on to study at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she met Martin Luther King Jr - the man who would one day become her husband. The union thrust Coretta into a maelstrom of history, throughout which her tireless fight for political and social justice established her as a champion of American civil rights.

I'm really enjoying this

I heard once that readers are more empathic. This memoir has given me insight into an experience I would otherwise not have known in such detail. Coretta is a vibrant and engaging person and I loved hearing about Martin Luther King Jr from her perspective. Her own story is certainly worth telling. I also found it immensely rewarding and informative to follow the process of great change: from small protests to much larger actions - all in the name of spirit and non-violence. Honestly the bravery and commitment is astonishing.
