Transportive

I love science fiction and have known that I would eventually have to experience this book. I wish it hadn’t taken me over 3 decades to get around to it.
It’s beautiful, it’s soft, nurturing and pure. I look forward to hitting play again in a years time and being swept back up in this amazingly ctrafted and preformed story.

Amazed at how good Sagan is at fiction

I got talked into reading this and am grateful I was. I was expecting a fairly amateurish and shallow story because Sagan isn't a professional writer and because the movie was so unremarkable. It is true that stylisticly Sagan is not stellar, but is far better than merely competent. No J G Ballard. On a deeper level his expositions on philosophy are high calibre. This isn't just hokey homespun maundering. Sagan sets up some juxtapositions on the boring old Science VS Religion saw, that are really original and thought provoking. He is playful and deep without taking sides in a tendentious manner. Some great little sparkling surprises pop out to delight and amuse. It is light and refreshing without being trivial. It truly is speculative Science Fiction worth of the name and your consideration.

Great story

Finally made the time to read the book from a movie I enjoyed. The book was so much better, the narrator did a great job, and I'm so glad I made the effort. highly recommended.

Worthwhile Read.

A compelling story I would recommend. Just be warned the narrator is quite soft on occasions, and can be hard to hear if in a car.

You've seen the movie. The book has a message

I wasn't sure if this book would add anything to what I've already seen in the movie. I was glad to be proven wrong. There is a lot to learn and discover. Do yourself a favour and look inside and find your message.

Fantastic Listening

What an improvement upon the film, richer, more human and more inspiring.
Much fuller character development and fleshing out of the philosophical conundrums.

Amazing story backed by real science

That Carl Sagan is an amazing scientist is common ground, but his talent as a writer surprised me. Contact is incredibly well written, have lots of provocative thoughts and great pace.

highly recommended for science and book lovers
