About this listen
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME).
When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages.
In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line.
Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild. The communicability and mortality rates are devastating, leaving only small pockets of survivors scattered throughout the countryside.
Commune: Book One is the story of one small group of survivors who must adapt to a primitive, hostile world or die. As they learn the rules of this new era, they must decide how far they're willing to go to continue living, continually asking themselves the same question daily: is survival worth the loss of humanity?

surprising and engrossing
i must admit i listened to this story from start to finnish. I appreciated the fact, that the story was engrossing on a human level without all the prepper porn you commonly find in book's of this jonra.

RC Bray, brilliant as always, story a little sappy
The author is obviously a gun nut, and his characters are a little shallow, but the overall delivery was worth a listen. RC Bray is by far my favourite narrator, and found him to be amazing again in this book.

Even if you don’t like apocalyptic novels - this is for you!
I usually detest apocalyptic based novels, but Joshua has made me a convert.
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed as to how much thought and detail he has put into Commune. The characters are well thought out and their development makes perfect sense. I will definitely be getting the next in the series.
R C Bray as usual is amazing!

I wanted to like this more but...
Overall an enjoy able listen. R.C.Bray does excellent performances, the universe presented and the problems the characters encounter were all believable. There was a nice 'hopefulness" vib about humanity in an apocalypse that was refreshing considering there is too often current dystopian thinking applied to people faced in situations of societal breakdown and stress. All the while not preaching or nieve.
The book really is a set up for number two. It establishes three key characters and the universe they survive but it doesn't provide much in the way of a strong plot. The extra detail about firearms and survicialism was interesting for me but would bore many IMHO. Having said that I stuck with the book and look forward to giving the next a go.
Perhaps one for those that already enjoy apocalypse sci-fi rather or those that enjoy lots of point of view narration.

You 'WILL' listen to this book more that once!
Would you consider the audio edition of Commune to be better than the print version?
Joshua Gayou has created characters that are so in depth and RC Bray has given them life beyond the written page. I love a good 'read', but over time I have found that I 'really love' a great listen! Story telling is at the core of mankind, it has passed on knowledge from the beginning of time and still does.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favourite character in book one is Billy, but it was a toss up between Jake, oh and Amanda! All of the characters are first class, but Billy oozes timeless experience, patience, and is the kind of person you could sit and talk with for hours. One moment a simple man of the land, the next a professor of any number of subjects. An enigma, wrapped in a conundrum and tied off with a mystery! If Billy is based on anyone in particular, I would love to meet them.
Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favourite?
This isn't a fair question at all! I honestly can't answer this one with a single favourite, RC Bray nailed it for the whole book. Simple as that for me.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
It's funny, how things break when there isn't thousands of people watching it!
Any additional comments?
This is in my all time top 10. It is a fantastic read and gives a completely different take on the world ending story. Gritty, real, entertaining and I can't wait for book two to come out. I look for it pretty well every week. Thank you very much Josua Gayou, RC Bray and Audible.

Pretty standard post incident but very character led
First off I love RC Brays work. But in this you would swear you were listening to a cast perform the piece. It’s some of his best work. The story is pretty standard post apocalyptic incident faire but very character driven and very empathetic in the way it’s written. Quite awesome. I finished the first and bought the second. Didn’t even wait for a credit and that’s saying something:)

Very enjoyable. Different from what I normally listen to, but well written with great characters. RC Bray is his usual brilliant self. On to book 2😁

Great Book
I knew nothing about this author, but I'm glad I gave this book a try. It's what a good apocalypse book should be.
