About this listen

Thrilling and absorbing, Cometh the Hour is the sixth novel in international bestseller Jeffrey Archer’s the Clifton Chronicles and sees the Clifton and Barrington families navigate the 1970s in an epic tale of tragedy and hope.

There are devastating consequences for Harry and Emma Clifton, her brother Giles Barrington and their arch enemy Lady Virginia when a suicide note is read out in court.

Having fallen in love, Giles must decide if he should withdraw from politics to try and rescue the woman he loves from behind the Iron Curtain.

Lady Virginia faces bankruptcy, and can see no way out of her financial problems, until she is introduced to a rich, hapless American.

Harry and Emma’s son Sebastian Clifton, now the Chief Executive of Farthings Bank, falls in love with the wrong girl even as his rivals plot to overthrow him. Meanwhile, his father remains determined to free a fellow author from a gulag in Siberia, following the international success of the book they wrote together, the acclaimed Uncle Joe.

But then something astonishing happens that none of them could have anticipated . . .

The penultimate book in the Clifton Chronicles once again showcases Jeffrey Archer’s extraordinary storytelling abilities and confirms his reputation for breathtaking twists.

Continue the bestselling series with This Was a Man.

Another engrossing book by a true story teller

Jeffrey Archer doesn't dissappoint with the 6th instalment of the Clifton Chronicals. The regular characters are back as we enjoy a twisting and ever changing turn of events. Kept me engrossed to the very last word. Alex Jennings narration only makes the experience that more enjoyable. Highly recommended listen.

The series that keeps on giving!

I loved this instalement of the clifton chronicles. There is never a dull moment and, just as the five books before it, keeps you hooked all the way through to the end. Jeffrey Archer is one of my new favourite authors and I look forward to many more of his books.

Alex Jennings is one of the best narrators I have experienced on auidble. His tone and accent for each character is better than I could of imagined. His consistency throughout is awesome!

As always a fantastic production with the voice actor complimenting the excellent story. A symphony of excellent work that is bringing the story together.

Addictive listening.

The Clifton Chronicles are Jeffrey Archer's Magnus Opus. Set against the turbulent history of post war Briton the books follow the fortunes of a very english family. I have stayed with the storyline because I am determined to see it through. It will be interesting to see how Archer draws all the threads together.

The end

I sensed that the author has written himself into a corner. The prologue offers hope of him getting his characters out of it but everything here became so predictable, especially Sloan and his associates. Lady Virginia at least still lends some modicum of entertainment. Here's hope for future writings but I'm not in any hurry to purchase the next book of the Barrington saga. Pity really when it all started out with such promise.
