About this listen

Ernie Creekmore has suffered too much loss and pain–including his wife and a mysterious medical condition that cranks his anger and curtails his focus.

One night, Linnbert “Cheese” Oliver, a hard-luck hero in the Northwest town of North Fork and the grandson of a pioneer family, is reported missing from a late-night ferry boat. For Ernie, the player’s father figure, friend and former coach, the news hits hard. He simply cannot accept the idea that young man could be gone. The coach takes time away from his new job to search for him, and it doesn’t go over well with his boss–nor with Harvey Johnston, the county’s chief investigator and his fishing partner and best friend.

He also can’t make us his mind about what to do with Jessie, Harvey’s sultry secretary who has her claws sharpened for Ernie. He still grieves his dead wife and nobody can measure up, despite Jessie’s most compelling efforts.

As Ernie digs into Linn’s disappearance, he discovers several curious connections with the town’s bawdy past and its present citizens–and how far some people go to protect precious secrets.
