About this listen

I know my daughter better than I know myself, and if there’s one thing I know for sure at this moment it's that Maisie is not okay.

My ex-husband, Shaun, and I are still friends. We would do anything for our beautiful little girl, Maisie. But now Shaun has moved in with Joanne, and suddenly Maisie has a brand-new family. And there’s something not quite right about it....

I know Joanne isn’t everything she says she is. Yet no-one will listen. I need to discover what she’s hiding. Because if I don’t, my daughter will be in terrible danger.

The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the Kindle top five best-selling author K. L. Slater. If you love The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, you’ll be absolutely hooked.

Half relationship drama, half thriller, quite average overall

I didn’t much like any of the main characters, although Emma wasn’t actually unlikable, just a bit frustrating. Having purchased the book because it was billed as a psychological thriller and rated highly, I found the first half to three quarters not that enjoyable, as it was all about a tortuous bickering separation. I kept waiting for the thrilling bit to start.

It did improve in the second half but overall the book wasn’t to my taste. Part relationship drama, part thriller, it almost seemed like two separate books and neither was that engaging. There was too much explaining. Rather than telling the story through the characters’ actions and words, with a few thoughts, the constant internal monologuing made it drag for me.

I did enjoy the narration, Lucy Price-Lewis is great. I don’t think I would have finished the book if it was a print book but her reading made it more enjoyable.

Great narration

Totally enjoyed this story , the narration really took each individual character. It honestly took me to the last few chapters to say oh I’ve got this . Well done

Good Book club book

This is an interesting story and I didn’t work out exactly what was happening until it happened. I had to re listen to the chapter where it all came together as it happened so fast.
It created quite a debate in book club.
I really enjoyed it.

Good

This was good, but because I am familiar with K.L Slaters other books and how tricky she can be, I did work out who the villain was .

Stunned

I have really enjoyed KLSlater’s books until this one. The story line was great till the ending. I sat stunned by the ending which wasn’t really an ending. So many questions came to mind. I don’t expect a happy ever after ending to stories but there needs to be some sort of closure. I felt as if I was left on the edge of a cliff or hoping there must be a sequel to follow.

Not my favourite KL Slater novel.

The narrator as always is wonderful.
The storyline was ok enough until it got to the end, in my opinion it was an unsatisfying flaky end and a disappointment.
I've read other people's reviews who loved it though, so each to their own.

What is the truth?

Too many points of view, too many crimes too many story arcs. It all seemed a bit of a mess. Story is intriguing and ending twisty enough. Narrated well.
