Bleak as hell.

I had fun with this book and thoroughly enjoyed the almost endless onslaught of bad things that happen to the characters throughout.

The Rising and City of the Dead are both exciting spins on the zombie genre. I think having undead that can have entire chapters focussed on their perspective gives the typical trope more depth than it usually ever would.

The narrator does a great job too.
