About this listen
There isn't a monster D'Angelo Kumar can't destroy or a crisis he can't manage, until he meets Angel Bai. The insane attraction he feels toward the sexy waiter is unwelcome, because D'Angelo doesn't have room in his life for relationships. A solitary path is the only option for a man like him, but fighting his growing feelings for Angel may be the first battle he can't win.
Angel's abilities extend beyond memorizing the menu at D'Angelo's favorite Italian restaurant, but he knows better than to trust anyone with his secret. When a vision reveals that D'Angelo's life is in danger, he will risk everything to save him. The only thing scarier than monsters and demons to Angel is never knowing D'Angelo's touch.
To say the demon hunter is reluctant to form a partnership with the psychic is putting it mildly, but D'Angelo needs every advantage he can get when the world's very existence is threatened. As darkness looms nearer, D'Angelo and Angel's unexplainable connection grows stronger. For a chance at happiness, the two men will need to call upon unlikely allies for an epic showdown between good and evil.
Contains mature themes.

Liked the story but not the writing!
Raised as a supernatural warrior with incredible powers, D’Angelo Kumar has an unshakeable belief in his own abilities and attractiveness. While he finds human waiter Angel (Ansell) Bai cute, he certainly doesn’t think he needs or wants Ansell’s help. Ansell has lived with vivid, crippling visions of the future his whole life, so when he has a vision of D’Angelo in danger, he has to warn him. When a demonic device endangers innocent lives and Ansell’s visions all come true, D’Angelo realises he must team up with Ansell but can he fight his attraction for the human?
This was a case of liking the story but not the writing. I thought there were some great creative ideas and no painful info-dumping. I didn’t find the dialogue or the humour compelling and, while I don’t mind swearing in books, weirdly, I’ve realised I don’t enjoy it during fight scenes, it feels childish or lazy. I also don’t find cocky characters with big egos like D’Angelo at all attractive. I liked the chase plot and the big fight scene but it also felt lazy to introduce a powerful new character that late in the book to save the day. Normally I like Joel Leslie’s audio narrations but he used a sort of twang here that I didn’t warm to (maybe it was D’Angelo rubbing me up the wrong way). All that said, I will seek out the second book to complete the series (the series is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).

did this just insert 90s purity culture bs into the world building if a MM story? yes. yes it did.
good performance. the plot was okay. the insertion of 90s purity culture in this type of story was just jarring.
