About this listen
Welcome back to Mount Polbearne! The new book from Top Ten best seller Jenny Colgan is full of festive joy, warmth and the best hot chocolate you can imagine....
It's Christmas in the Cornish coastal village of Mount Polbearne - a time for family, friends and feasting.
Polly Waterford loves running the Little Beach Street Bakery. She's at her happiest when she's creating delicious treats and the festive season always inspires her to bake and knead something extra special for the village residents. In fact, the only thing she loves more than her bakery is curling up with her gorgeous boyfriend, Huckle. She's determined that this Christmas is going to be their best one yet, but life doesn't always work out as planned....
When Polly's best friend Kerensa turns up with a secret that threatens the life Polly and Huckle have built together, the future begins to look uncertain. And then a face from Polly's past reappears and things become even more complicated. Polly can usually find solace in baking but she has a feeling that's not going to be enough this time. Can she get things back on track so that everyone has a merry Christmas?

Sweet
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
A sweet book, yes as other reviews say it is very unrealistic in places and fantastical, But hey its a trilogy and the final. By this stage I was very invested in the characters and in love with the setting and Cornwell, the author cld have landed a UFO on the beach and I wldnt have cared too much. It felt a little rushed and like too much was squashed into the book. But I loved it and it was heart warming and it made me feel happy. What more can you ask for in a cosy, escapist read? Plus Kerensa's storyline kept me hooked till the end.

Embarrassingly Disingenuous
Ms. Colgan excels at writing about a 30 something woman struggling to find her feet in life. She excels at creating a warm environment. In this story, she left her safe zone and tried some heavier conflict, some darker themes.
What a goddamn train wreck.
!!Spoilers below this line!!
It is revealed that Carenza cheated on Rueben with a Brazillian stripper. Most of this book deals with Carenza's anxiety about how she is hoping to trick Rueben into raising another man's son.
The baby is born, and he has a genetic birthmark, securing him as Rueben's child.
AND THAT PLOTLINE ENDS. We did it, gang! We successfully hid a woman's infidelity from her husband! Woohoo!
We are seeing male authors mocked for how badly they write women, but nobody is calling out how badly authors like Ms. Colgan write men. No man would be able to maintain a healthy friendship with his best friend while hiding from him the fact that his marriage is a sham.
Stick to lighter drama and puffin shenanigans please, Ms. Colgan. You're embarrassing yourself.
