About this listen
A Chinese proverb says, "Falling leaves return to their roots."
In Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah returns to her roots to tell the story of her painful childhood and her ultimate triumph and courage in the face of despair. Adeline's affluent, powerful family considers her bad luck after her mother dies giving birth to her. Life does not get any easier when her father remarries.
She and her siblings are subjected to the disdain of her stepmother, while her stepbrother and stepsister are spoiled. Although Adeline wins prizes at school, they are not enough to compensate for what she really yearns for: the love and understanding of her family. Read by the author.

Incredible heart wrenching story
My heart hurts for this little girl and the way she was treated. Probably one of the saddest books I've ever read. But also one of the most inspirational ones.

A story of adversity and triumph
Reading this story by Adeline is inspirational and shows people that you can achieve anything what you put your mind to it. This reminds me of the fictional series Anne of Green Gables and Adeline has lived through that life. Thanks for the inspiration and I think this is a wonderful book for my yr7 son to study for English literature as it will inspire other young minds to follow their dreams no mater what your background or where you come from.

Beautiful and Heart Breaking!
I almost can't believe this is real life. It is at times so horrible. Its a story of resilience from horrific abuse. I really want to read Falling Leaves - I wish there was an audio book version!

Mediocre, tedious, at times maddening.
Struggled to finish. Kept waiting for some kind of storyline to develop. Anticlimactic. Underwhelming. Stultifying.
