Aksel Heltoft, 1922-1993, forfatter og generalsekretær. Aksel Heltoft deltog aktivt i modstandskampen under Anden Verdenskrig og udgav sammen med sin hustru Bente Hammerich et af besættelsestidens vigtigste illegale blade "Folk og Frihed" samt modstandsantologien "Der brænder en Ild" (1944) med bidrag fra næsten alle tidens førende lyrikere og prosaister.
I december 1944 blev han arresteret og deporteret til koncentrationslejren Neuengamme, hvor han sad til krigens slutning. Senere debuterede han med tre noveller, der tager udgangspunkt i tiden i Neuengamme med et ubetvingeligt, religiøst betonet håb om en forløsning til en bedre tilværelse.
