About this listen
Silver fox Stephen Webb doesn't mean to start a workplace fling with the cute new intern.
Stephen Webb has a pivotal tax season ahead of him, and he doesn't have time for distractions. At least that's what he thinks - until Minoru "Max" Kamigawa walks into his life and disrupts all his plans.
Max secretly wants to follow his love of music, but family obligations keep him rooted in Hawaii. Tax supervisor Stephen Webb makes his spring internship a little sweeter, but the man's priorities don't seem to include Max. Is it only a fling or something worth staying for when his dreams come calling?
Stephen and Max must decide whether to stick to their goals or risk everything and change their course for love.

Conflicted silver fox and his sweet intern!
Minoru “Max” Kamigawa would love to be a musician but he’s finishing an accountancy degree and an internship to keep the wolf from the door. He can’t help drooling over his grumpy, silver-fox boss, Stephen Webb. With tax deadlines looming, workloads rising, and partnership being dangled but somehow never within grasp, Stephen is pretty unhappy. The only bright spot in his days is Max but although they achieve a few drunken hookups, Stephen continually pushes Max away when he wants more.
I mostly enjoyed this workplace romance, despite Stephen’s pretty unlikeable character. Crystal Lacy does a good job of slowly revealing Stephen’s difficult background and helping us to understand his hot and cold behaviour, but it’s still a big ask to like him. Max, on the other hand, is very likeable and it’s heartbreaking to watch him get hurt time and again. Like the first book, there was a nice emphasis on family, in this case Max’s cheeky grandmother and hardworking mum. US voice artist Iggy Toma didn’t put a foot wrong on the audio, he’s always excellent (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!
