About this listen

'If you want to bet on numbers, go to a casino. If you want theatre, go to the races.' - Les Carlyon

All his life, Andrew Rule has watched racing's heroes and villains, dreamers and schemers.

In Chance, he distils the daring, the desperation and danger of the track, peeling back some of racing's most famous and infamous moments, its celebrations and its secrets, the grittiness behind the glitz.

There are stories of those who set the odds and those who take them, betting plunges planned more carefully than bank robberies, of tricky trainers, reckless jockeys and bold bookmakers.

Tough and sometimes tender, dark and sometimes funny, Chance transcends the industry they call the sport of kings.

Enthralling

Loved it, Andrew Rule is the leading storyteller of the Australia whose inhabitants live the kind of eventful lives that those in the other Australia of the Twitterverse couldn't even imagine. Rule has indeed taken over the stables of Les Carlyon and is consistently publishing winners.

just brilliant

A great listen, so many memories and great stories, if you follow horse racing it's a must. The narrator had a great voice for the story line. Just love the book.

A great story

I thoroughly enjoyed Chance for more reasons than one. My father trained “Pelican Point” or The Pelican as mentioned in his first part of his career. Dads heart was broken when the Browns sold him. I still remember listening on the radio to his second place in the AJC Derby. He will always be my favourite racehorse of all time. I'm a big fan of Andrews and love his podcast as well. Thank you for the trip down memory lane Andrew.

Inside Knowledge and racings whose who.

If you like punting and the racing industry then this is the book for you. I Kew about some stories but I had no idea about how involved all the scams were.

Great book.

Good read

Enjoyed the read and the history of the sport-the good the bad and the ugly.

Boirng

I guess these short byte sized stories don’t lend well to audio. Coupled with the very poor narration, a disappointing purchase.
