About this listen
Ten-year-old Katie Blasko is missing. Detective Sergeant Ellen Destry, alert to rumours of a paedophile ring operating on the Peninsula, is thinking abduction.
Her colleagues are thinking bad family, truancy. Her boss is thinking about the media. Her partner, DI Hal Challis, is a thousand kilometres away, watching his father die, and everyone, including Ellen, is wondering whether she's good enough to handle this without him.

Another Winner
The story moved quickly …. I enjoyed the two threads. The stories do not intersect but each comes to a satisfying conclusion. I want to know what happens next.

Great story - terrible reader
This is the first Gary Disher audiobook I bought. The awful reader almost made it my last - such a shame because Disher's story and plotting are good! Don't buy it. I would say read the book and avoid the audiobook for this one: wooden reading, terrible mis-pronounciation of simple words and bizarre stagey voices for characters. I notice this is the only Disher book read by this bloke so I'm going to try another and so should you.

Great story poorly read.
I thoroughly enjoyed Disher’s story. I like his style especially the accuracy of his accounts of rural Australia. His characters are really well developed and plot lines both plausible and intriguing.
However it was as much as I could do to listen to the whole book. The reading was deplorable. Every time a character spoke they “shouted” or used a completely unrealistic accent. Surely there are better readers than this fellow.
