Publisher's Summary
Wayne dreamed of piloting a thirty-foot-tall walking robot that was closer to a battle-tank than anything else.
They were called Walkers. They were armed with laser cannons, rockets, missiles, and heavy kinetic weapons more similar to artillery pieces than guns, and everything that went with that.
Unfortunately, he had been declined military service. His only avenue left to become a Walker Pilot was to make it happen all on his own. Under his own power. With his own hands. Literally.
Working his fingers to the bone, saving all he could, and digging through junkyards and salvage pits, Wayne made it happen. One part at a time.
He was now, finally, at the starting line.
Having built a very rough Walker that he had cobbled together himself, he scavenged a few weapons that were perfect for starting out and had just enough money to afford ammunition. His long-term dream was just about to start. Perhaps he would even form his own Walker Mercenary company and hire people to work with him.
Except just as he finally moves forward, his home world is about to take a gigantic leap backward—with Wayne at the center of it all, without ever truly realizing it.

Genuinely one of my favorite books
The issue I have with most stories in the harem scifi/fantasy genre is that the MC almost always hooks up with the first female he meets, along with the second and usually third. From there it just becomes about balancing relationships and very little on the over arching story. Boring.
This book had pretty much all of my favorite things with very little of the above.
We have a MC whos not retarded, nor a simp, whos just trying to do the best he can. Check.
We have mech's and spaceships. Check.
Now onto the good stuff. We have salvage. Check Check.
Throughout the story we have the MC doing missions and accumulating salvage, which means upgrading mechs and even acquiring a dropship.
I would have liked to see a little more on spending the gains from the mission, instead of just hopping from one mission to another. Maybe some unique tech research aside from the implant?
Looking forward to the next book.

My new favourite book, & two of my favourite narrators
Everything I enjoy, charismatic MC, fun characters, action, mechs, upgrading & progression without stat blocks, harem romance and an intriguing setting. It's not high literature, but a great popcorn action "flick". The narrators are brilliant, Rebecca Wood flirting in your ear doesn't lose its effect on repeat listens either...
If you enjoyed The Selfless Saviour trilogy I imagine you will enjoy this as well as I.
