About this listen
A lovely impostor...or two...
Tragedy and a family feud years ago tore Cassandra Weatherstone and her twin apart. Cassandra exchanges lives with her sister to get to know her grandfather. She’s astonished to discover that Sir Marcus has arranged to betroth his granddaughter to his godson, Philip Raven. The problem is, she's the wrong granddaughter!
Anabelle Weatherstone is up from the country for her first London Season. She is no retiring miss, and after such a dull, quiet upbringing, she intends to plunge into every entertainment. She soon earns the sobriquet, 'Belle of London'.
Major Lord Ashdon, a soldier returned to England to find a bride, remembers meeting the demure young lady. He's startled to discover that she's become the toast of the town! She is amazingly changed. He's not certain he approves, but he is intrigued. But sometimes, he isn't at all sure that she remembers him....

An author worth following.
Gayle Buck, and Julia Eve, are beginning to grow on me! I first began listening to GB as I was in search of some Georgette Heyer-isque style books. I was disappointed with the first couple - some Christmas stories - but I decided to persevere, and I am glad that I did. I would say that GB imitates GH’s style, and as in most cases, the copy is not as good as the original. But having said that, GB’s stories are enjoyable to read, and I also appreciate their ‘clean’ nature in an age when no sooner do a couple kiss than they are in bed together.
In terms of narration, I found increasing the speed to 1.2x improved it markedly. Also, the longer I listen to Julia Eve the more I appreciate her skills. She reads clearly, and I am particularly impressed by her male voices - I find the majority of female narrators do these poorly.
I look forward to listening to my next Gayle Buck story!
