Publisher's Summary
"Carrion Comfort is one of the three greatest horror novels of the 20th century. Simple as that." (Stephen King)
"Epic in scale and scope but intimately disturbing, Carrion Comfort spans the ages to rewrite history and tug at the very fabric of reality. A nightmarish chronicle of predator and prey that will shatter your world view forever. A true classic." (Guillermo del Toro)
"Carrion Comfort is one of the scariest books ever written. Whenever I get asked the question Who's your favorite author? my answer is always Dan Simmons." (James Rollins)
"One of the few major reinventions of the vampire concept, on a par with Jack Finney's Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, and Stephen King's Salem's Lot. (David Morrell)
THE PAST...
Caught behind the lines of Hitler's Final Solution, Saul Laski is one of the multitudes destined to die in the notorious Chelmno extermination camp. Until he rises to meet his fate and finds himself face to face with an evil far older, and far greater, than the Nazis themselves...
THE PRESENT...
Compelled by the encounter to survive at all costs, so begins a journey that for Saul will span decades and cross continents, plunging into the darkest corners of 20th century history to reveal a secret society of beings who may often exist behind the world's most horrible and violent events. Killing from a distance, and by darkly manipulative proxy, they are people with the psychic ability to "use" humans: read their minds, subjugate them to their wills, experience through their senses, feed off their emotions, force them to acts of unspeakable aggression. Each year, three of the most powerful of this hidden order meet to discuss their ongoing campaign of induced bloodshed and deliberate destruction. But this reunion, something will go terribly wrong. Saul's quest is about to reach its elusive object, drawing hunter and hunted alike into a struggle that will plumb the depths of mankind's attraction to violence, and determine the future of the world itself...

Epic original horror
I’ve read Dan Simmons before and loved it but never expected this to be so good!! Stephen King says it’s in his top favourite horror books and now I know why. The characters are rich and deep and you really connect with them. The story is original and terrifying and the narration was fantastic - at times you forget it’s the same person with a different accent. I loved every minute of this audio and I’m going to buy the book now. Highly recommend.

Amazing!
Only downloaded for lack of other ideas. Excellent story. Interesting story layout. This book doesn't hold back and kept me captured from beginning to end. Rivals even the most popular stories by Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

Overall good story. Quite a few threads.
So I loved Hyperion, thought I'd try this. Incredible that an author can be so diverse. This book is completely different. Overall it was ok, though there was an accelerating reliance on magic to make it all hang together in the end. Mehh.

Just epic!
I never thought I’d be able to listen to such a long audiobook and stay interested, but I was so wrong!
The story is awesome, the characters are excellent and the narrators did such a great job. I was actually sad to finish it.

Brilliant
Pretty much everything is perfect, the story is riveting and the narration by both Mel and Laural captures each character in your minds eye to perfection.

A good but badly aged epic 80's movie
Great story and concept overall, however doesn't just appear to be set in the 80's but almost set in an 80's movie with the suspension of disbelief that entails. Once you accept that it's highly entertaining. Fair warning, not sure how much is the narration but dialogue with the Philly gang members is cringe to the point of problematic. But still a good one

Usual Simmons character depth and hidden philosophy
A unique narrative which is not unusual for this amazing author. I liked it a lot except for one comment made at the end by the main character. Narrator is also the regular for Simmons books- excellent .
