Jan Mogensen modtog i 1982 Burg-Wissem prisen for sin debutbog, og har senere modtaget Kulturministeriets Illustratorpris i 1985, Kulturministeriets Initiativpræmie i 1986 og 1988, samt Fortællefantordenen i 2001.
