About this listen
Desperate people might do crazy things; crazy like adverting for a mail-order bride; crazy like answering the ad.
Michael Malloy was desperate. His mother had died in a tragic accident nine months prior, and his father had become a drunkard. He ran their ranch but was stuck doing the work of all three.
How could he get some help? How could he fashion a future?
Were any of the girls he knew in Laramie, Wyoming, the answer to all his dreams? Hmm.
He could advertise for a bride, specifying all the attributes he was seeking. It was a gamble - a gamble a desperate man was willing to take.
Callie O’Brien had spent four years in Cincinnati. In all that time, she hadn’t found that good man her pa claimed was out there waiting for her. When the old man Big Red died, she had no place to live. Well, she was stuck in a dead-end job. Maybe, that good man was a rancher in Laramie, Wyoming.
Replying to his ad was more than a little crazy. It was a desperate gamble. She rationalized. How likely was it she’d be chosen?
Callie's Gamble is set in Laramie, Wyoming, in the year 1886. The story follows a lonely and desperate rancher and his mail-order bride - a Kentucky Southern girl, Callie O'Brien. It's a story of adjustments, trials, new adventures, and overcoming life's obstacles.
