About this listen

MILLION COPY BESTSELLING AUTHOR
A spate of seemingly unconnected murders in southern England prompt a high-profile taskforce to be formed and led by DCI Jack Hawksworth, one of the Force's new rising stars who combines modern methods with old-school instincts.

The victims appear as disparate as their style of death; the only link that Hawk and his team can pull together is that the murdered are all men of an identical age. The taskforce has nothing but cold cases of decades past to comb through in the hope that they might find a clue to who is behind the savagery.

A heart-stopping tale of brutal revenge with a chilling twist by a powerhouse Australian author.

"McIntosh breathes so much life and detail into the storyworld." Better Reading

Engrossing...but...

i absolutely loved the second half of this. i had listened to Mirror Man first (which is mistakenly described by Amazon as book 1 in the series), and so already knew the outcome of Bye Bye Baby - but i still found it riveting.

I do agree with reviewers complaining about Kate fawning over Hawksworth who is portrayed as a cliched romantic hero. The thing i disliked most in this book and Mirror Man is how Kate is described as beautiful and 'intuitive'--and therefore a brilliant detective, whilst the DS is plain and hard working, lacking Kate's supposed flair. Every time the DS does something brilliant, Hawk is surprised and Kate is vindictive. That sideshow was a bit tedious, overplaying gender stereotypes, but then the pacy thriller elements came together and i was fully engrossed.

The story isn't flawless but it's pretty clever and more exciting than most.

Captured me from the start

Story had me turning on my audible when cooking , walking dogs and laying in bed. It captured me from the start. Lots of twists and turns. I have a dislike of male voices trying f to sound like females particularly when emotional and crying. Didn’t work. But otherwise the characters where well presented by the reader

Good read

It took me a while to get into this story. Although the narrator did a relatively good job, I did find his voice grated on me however, I perservered becoming use to his voice as I ventured further into the storyline. The story was enjoyable and made for a good read. Most of the characters were believable and likeable. Some doubt about the complexity of Anne's character and whether she would have been able to carry out all of the activities especially surviving it all however, it is fiction and I guess the writer's poetic licence to write as she did. Having said all of that I still enjoyed the book. Can't say it was the best story I read but not too bad considering my above-mentioned comments.

Enthralling story, grim and addictive

Loved the twists and turns of characterization and plot.
Just about returned the title though, after listening to others of Fiona Mcintosh's ( which I loved), I did not enjoy this narration. I think her normal narrator, Kate, does a far superior job with accent and inflection .

Fantastic. Couldn’t put it down!

Loved this book. Perhaps her best so far (I’ve read them all). I don’t read too many psycho thrillers (they scare me!) and there were moments this story was confronting, but the characters were gripping and real and I just could stop listening. I highly recommend this book. Oh, and the narration was excellent - very easy to listen to and voice distinction was excellent.
