Publisher's Summary

In the country, where his 15th summer has burned the life from the grass, Daniel Fairbrother is searching. Looking for something that will make tomorrow seem worth the effort. Something that will fix the rot in his family tree. He works in the Dutch woman's garden. Eddy's 86. She can read Daniel's mind. She has a tattoo, a history, and can make music with her farts. In a shady corner of Eddy's garden, Daniel finds something growing ... Hope. But something is burning.

Editorial reviews

Scot Gardner’s whimsical and touching Australian coming-of-age story centers on 15-year-old Daniel Failbrother and his tender and sometimes charmingly contentious relationship with the 86-year-old Eddy - the quirky, stridently eccentric Dutch woman who teaches him invaluable life lessons and helps him cope with his dark, traumatic past.

Narrator Stig Wemyss impressively captures the nuances of the diverse collection of Australian accents on display, and his vividly animated portrayal of Eddy and her exaggerated Dutch lilt is something to behold in this funny, inspiring, and refreshingly candid depiction of adolescence.
