About this listen

In Blarney, Cork, an old millworker's cottage guards its secrets.

In 1921 a mother, a father and their two young children disappeared from this house. And now, 95 years later, their mummified bodies have been discovered under the floorboards.

As DS Katie Maguire investigates, the flames of old family rivalries flare up once more...and Katie is caught in the crossfire.

Critic Reviews

"One of this country’s most exciting crime novelists...he has established the engaging character of Irish Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire in a series of three fine crime novels. If you have not read one, read all four now." ( Daily Mail)

Another Masterpiece

A.H

Gosh, there are just a Handful of Authors, I love to listen to.
Mr Masterton is one of them.

This Book didn’t disappoint !

Plenty of WTFs throughout the Twists and Turners, only this Author can deliver, with such fineness.

Thank you to the Author, Narrator and Audible 🙏

Buried

Detailed, well thought out story, well written but I would have preferred Katie to be more law abiding.
Narration good.

brilliant

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, this is one of the best written books i have read in a long time. The story line is unusual and keeps you wanting to get to the next chapter.

What does Aoife McMahon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

i think hearing the accents really gave the characters a real Irish identity. the story would not have been half as good in my australian accent.

Wait till it gets going.

Where does Buried rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I rank it very good. Normally I dont like women readers, but as the main character was female I got used to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Buried?

A couple of surprise twists just when I had thought that I had predicted the ending.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

It was a "dark" book, not really intended for "enjoyment".

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

If anything, it made me a little sad.

Any additional comments?

I was almost put off by the broad Irish accents at the start. Fortunately I persisted, and the accents moderated. Thus my heading ... I could not have listened to the whole book if the broad accents had continued.

Loved it

So graphic, descriptive and thrilling - started tough with the accent but drawn too it and could not stop listening - I did not think it necessary for Katie and Alan to sleep together - or they could of remembered each other from the past case but overall loved it x

Great crime suspense

Great story narrated brilliantly by Aoife McMahon. Plenty of suspense and a few thriller moments where I had to hit the pause button! Good to see a hero who has some human traits and flaws.

what a book

Absolutely loved this book with all its twists and turns. Graham Masterton doesn't shy away from telling it how it is including unbelievable acts of terror, pain and horror. I also love the main character Katie Maguire who is the essence of femininity with a smart tough mentality .
Aoife McMahon is a wonderful narrator and she complimented the story with her lovely voice making this audible story a pleasure to listen to.
