Publisher's Summary
Broken Money explores the history of money through the lens of technology. Politics can affect things temporarily and locally, but technology is what drives things forward globally and permanently.
The book's goal is for the listener to walk away with a deep understanding of money and monetary history, both in terms of theoretical foundations and in terms of practical implications. From shells to gold, from papyrus bills of exchange to central banks, and from the invention of the telegraph to the creation of Bitcoin, Lyn Alden walks the listener through the emergence of new technologies that have shaped what we use as money over the ages. And beyond that, Alden explores the concept of what money is at its very foundation to give the listener a framework to analyze and compare different types of monetary technologies and monetary theories.
The book also takes a distinctively human look at how money impacts the lives of real people, and how new monetary technologies shape the power structures within society.

Quality information and thought-provoking concepts in respect to where we are in the world
Broken money is a must read in understanding what has and is occurring in our current financial system and intern seeking to understand how bitcoin can play its role to be an alternative.
The ability to understand how bitcoin has evolved and is remaining true to its core - store of value, was a real highlight.
Lyn did a great job in explaining how multiple levels are being built upon bitcoin Which replicates the current Fiat structural system of layering.
There is much to digest from this book, but provides great insight as to what is underway and to monitor.

Was in no way different to the other current economic utube talkers
Said nothing about models like XRP, talked up bit coin, while saying nothing about the EFT, and the fat that 5 million paper bitcoin are in existence , its becoming centralized in control. Not a great book, disappointed, as it really was a rehash of many of the other finance books that came out since 2022
