About this listen

Our brains do amazing things: They determine our actions, our thoughts, and our feelings. We may not always realize it, but the brain is central to the way we experience life. So what happens when brain circuits break? What are the consequences for our behavior and personality?

From Parkinson’s disease to Tourette’s syndrome and depression to psychopathy, Broken Brains reveals the mysteries of brain function - and dysfunction. In this no-nonsense introduction, Ian Mitchell takes you on a tour through the sometimes devastating and sometimes bizarre effects of what happens when brains break down.

Highly digestible and packed with anecdotes and real examples from neurosurgery, this book brings biological psychology to life, making it the perfect introduction to understanding the brain and what happens when things go wrong.

Explains brain science and human conditions

I must say at the outset that my background in Educational Neuroscience helped me understand a lot of the background information. It is for people who want to go a bit deeper into the science of the brain. I found this book fascinating and enjoyed the connection between science and human conditions. An excellent listen if you like brain science and what makes us, as a race, have some of the traits or unusual conditions affecting our behavior. If you are just interested in this sort of thing, learning psychology or studying neuroscience I think you will greatly benefit from this book and enjoy the humanity and humour mixed with sound science and recent findings. Highly recommended! I will listen again.

my wife, a neurosurgeon...

Don't get me wrong, there's being proud of your wife...
...and there's telling the audience that she's a neurosurgeon five times in the first chapter.
