About this listen
From romantic suspense author A.K. Evans comes a brand-new military romance...
Rules are made to be broken…
Royce Blackstone has one rule: Never get personally involved with his clients.
As the owner of Harper Security Ops, Royce is well aware of everything and everyone inside his building. When he’s about to go in after the biggest lead on latest case that’s landed on his desk, Royce didn’t expect he’d have to abort the mission early.
It might have seemed like Tarryn Hendrix was simply looking to learn some new skills, but dedicating two years of her life to training her mind and body is all part of Tarryn’s plan.
She’s seeking retribution, and she has every intention of getting it.
Unsure if she’s aware of just how much danger she put herself in, Royce lashes out at the woman who’s been training at his facility. But when he realizes just how determined Tarryn is to mete out justice, Royce resolves to get to the bottom of the case before Tarryn gets hurt.
And now that he’s gotten a taste of her, Royce thinks it’s time to break the rules.

slow going with little grit
Hmmm. First listen to this author for me and although the plotline is really good, the execution, not so much.
The book, for the story, in my opinion, lacked intensity.
The h is on a vengeance kick but there is no build up, no depth, no emotional wrench at my heart. I needed that to fall into the h's plan. It didn't happen.
It rolled along with a few bumps here and there. The H, after 2 years does a huge backflip and his alphaness slips...for me anyway.
The case is a serious one yet I dont get the urgent feel, there is too much lightness for the situation at hand. Especially because the h was on a mission from the start. The tone seems to get bogged down with retrospection of the h and H. It takes a chapter or 2 for the h to explain her thoughts, then the next chapter or 2 we get the H's side.
Unfortunately for me, it just slowed the flow of the book and stalled the depth of the plot.
If this is how Ms Evans writes, its good but not my style. I prefer a much faster pace.
There is very little action throughout the story and the steam is nice but definitely not hot.
I've never heard these narrators before and although their tone and inflections are good I don't think they were right for these characters. If the H had a deeper more intense voice, maybe it would have helped, but it didn't past the mark for me.
Such a good concept but just lacked the grit needed for the storyline.
I think the downplay of what occurred involving the sister, near the end, was pretty watery. And I also noticed the finer descriptions were lacking. The colour of her dress, her hair, the slow steam of undressing .anyway
I'm sorry I don't take to the writing style of Ms Evans as the narrator's in her future books are brilliant, but the back and forth retrospection is too slow.
