Publisher's Summary
The second book in the beloved and globally best-selling Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. Welcome to Anthony's story....
1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better....
Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814
Anthony Bridgerton needs a wife. Having spent his 20s in a rakish pursuit of pleasure (whilst taking care to ensure the financial security of his mother and seven younger siblings and mother) he knows it's high time he settled down and ensured the continuation of the Bridgerton line. Edwina Sheffield is considered the most beautiful debutante of the current season. She is also sweet, innocent and eminently biddable - Anthony is sure she'll make a perfectly acceptable wife and vows to make her his.
The only obstacle in his way is Edwina's older sister, Kate. Kate is determined to do all she can to allow her sister the chance to marry for love rather than convenience. And the roguish viscount is beginning to think he may have met his match in Kate's keen wit and sharp tongue. Until, that is, he makes the mistake of kissing her....
Critic Reviews
"Captivating and alluring. Hilarious and yet incredibly heart-warming, this is a tale that will charm the most discriminating heart." (Romantic Times)
"A smart, funny touch." (Time Magazine)

Not the best but not terrible either. Storyline was a but predictable. But I like Kate

My favourite so far
I loved this book in the series the most so far and I have read 5. I actually went back and reread this a second time. Kate is one of my favourite characters and she is so well written. Love this series!

Enjoyable
I read this before viewing the screen version which I thought to be a fantastic interpretation with clever variances from the book, and can honestly say I loved both.
You get to understand Anthony's back story and personality, as well of that of Kate's. Being privy to their inner thoughts adds an interesting dimension to their banter.
The pall mall scene, is different to the screen version and very entertaining.
The narrator did a great job although i found Anthony's 'sensual' voice not that sexy! I suppose it's difficult for narrators to do characters of the opposite sex. Rosalyn Landor has an excellent voice for storytelling so I can't complain.
I highly recommend this audiobook irrespective of whether you've seen the screen version already.
NB: I listened to (and loved) all of the Bridgerton siblings' stories in order with the exception of Daphne"s [The Duke & I] which I listened to last and didn't enjoy. If you love the screen series so far, I'd suggest doing the same.

I really enjoyed this book! So far it has probably been my favourite out of the three Bridgerton series I've read/listened too.

Better than the Netflix version
This story line had more depth of character than the Netflix episode. In the tv episode Anthony asked his prostitute mistress to run away with him. The Anthony in the book did not, and never would do that. It was so out of character. I enjoyed the book so much more.

Hot but Cold.
i find the reader of the Bridgeton novels fantastic. I love her ability to capture your attention and give each chapter a different voice.
As for Anthony's story... I didn't enjoy it as much as Daphne's, which is a real shame. I found his character development, lacking, and his courtships a bit boring. I don't feel the resentment transmission into desire was communicated well; feeling it was underdeveloped and uncomfortable. His story had a lot of potential, and I would have loved to see an uncontrollable burning desire for kate. More stolen glances, more hot messy desire and spontaneous moments, fights turned into hot kisses, etc. However, i found his desire was communicated through mainly teasing and calculated control techniques. I would have loved to see more of the boy in Anthony, less of the man of the house.
Still worth a read though if you are into the series.
