About this listen
To those who matter in 1950s Hollywood, Lena Scott is the hottest rising star to hit the silver screen since Marilyn Monroe. Few know her real name is Abra. Even fewer know the price she' s paid to finally feel like she' s somebody. To Pastor Ezekiel Freeman, Abra will always be the little girl who stole his heart the night he found her, a wailing newborn abandoned under a bridge on the outskirts of Haven.
Zeke and his son, Joshua - Abra' s closest friend - watch her grow into an exotic beauty. But Zeke knows the circumstances surrounding her birth etched scars deep in her heart, scars that leave her vulnerable to a fast-talking bad boy who proclaims his love and lures her to Tinseltown. Hollywood feels like a million miles from Haven, and naive Abra quickly learns what' s expected of an ambitious girl with stars in her eyes.
But fame comes at an awful price. She has burned every bridge to get exactly what she thought she wanted. Now, all she wants is a way back home. In this riveting and highly anticipated tale of temptation, grace, and unconditional love, New York Times best-selling author Francine Rivers delivers big-canvas storytelling at its very best.

Beautiful
A beautiful story about identity, self worth and the love in our lives that we often miss or take for granted.
The story was well told and narrated. It delves into deep issues of the heart, and weaves through pain to redemption both in the natural and spiritual. The storyline became a little predictable in parts. However, Francine has such a way of building her characters and their journeys towards revelation, that I kept wanting to read more and more.
Francine Rivers always leaves me deep in wonder and reflection, and she challenges me in my spiritual path. She was able to skilfully do so again, and I loved it!

Well worth it.
I've loved other books by this writer based on bible stories. This was different. When things went from bad to worse to worse for the main character, I felt all hope lost. I was sad and wondered if it was ever going to change. Admittedly I did choose to listen to a little of the end to find out if it did get better. I was relieved and pleased to find Hope was restored. The story does show how arrogance, independence and hurt can fuel a life looking for hope only to discover, that motivation does not lead us to hope and salvation but more of the same. It can be a hard lesson. When the lesson is learnt though, joy brings in a new day.

One of my treasured audio books.
The struggles, the battles, the realisations and commitments, friendships and loyalty makes this book one of the special ones. I loved it, food to the soul.
