When winter's done, but spring has not yet fully sprung, much of Alaska turns to slush. Locally, it's called "breakup," and it's a…messy time of year. Excellent writing - perfect narrator.

ll of the Kate Shugak series - more please. I have read some of the Liam Campbell series - not quite as good, but then, it would be a tough call to better Kate Shugak - and Mutt - as a protagonist. By the way, all of the supporting characters - Jack, Johnny, Jim, Bobby, the Aunties, Bernie - are now part of my inner family.
