Publisher's Summary

The pandemic is over, but its effects are still resonating across the country and they’re growing louder, not softer.

Former journalist, Maggie Langton and ex-Enforcer and current fugitive from the government, Jim O’Reilly, are settling in to their new lives at the remote Hideaway Camp, a ranch camp in the northern Arizona wilderness. The garden is thriving as are the various children who have come to live with them and also call Hideaway home.

Maggie Langton is about to learn, however, that the Enforcers mission to carry out the concentration of the population isn’t the only danger facing her and her family. A chance meeting with a band of ghosts, those who have avoided being thrown into an Authorized Population Zone and are living off what they can steal from others, places her life at risk once again.

O’Reilly is faced with a difficult choice—leave the children alone at the camp and try to rescue Maggie, even though he knows neither may return alive, or stay at the camp and make sure the children are safe.

Breaking Free, the sequel to the award winning Gone to Ground, takes the listener back to the remote ranch land of northern Arizona, and the small ranch camp called Hideaway, deep in Adobe Canyon.
