About this listen

From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Penshaw.

When the gods made man, they made a weapon....

After uncovering a fresh wave of corruption within the ranks of Northumbria CID, Detective Chief Inspector Ryan was looking forward to an uneventful summer. But, when a young woman is shot dead on the remote army ranges of the Northumberland National Park, Ryan is called in to investigate.

Meanwhile, violent crimes are being committed across sites of historic importance in the North East, the perpetrator leaving only a graffitied symbol as their calling card. As the body count rises, Ryan and his team must unravel the mystery behind its meaning - before it's too late....

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Borderlands

Again, a wonderful adventure with excitement, some humour and getting to know the main characters. The narrator, so many different accents, amazing

Too short, but still sweet

I get the feeling this is a wrapping up of the storyline, which would be a shame.

Never Fails

Yet again, a fabulous storyline with interwoven side tales that add very nicely to the full rounded entertainment experience. Jonathan Keeble is a brilliant narrator... and suits this genre and series perfectly... long may the association endure! Thank you L J Ross for another brilliant listening experience!

Woefully short

If it weren’t for Jonathon Keeble’s outstanding performance I’d have given up half hour into this book. Sadly I’m leaving Ryan and his team here. This book was a waste of a credit. Too short and no suspension of disbelief in the plot at all. Frankly, I’d like my credit back.

find an accent coach!

Great story, as always. The timbre and pace of the narration is as good as ever.. Crossing the accent border was a bridge too far. What are those accents? Scwelrish?? The Scottish Border accent is very particular. Thanks to moving around the globe I don't have one, despite being born there. This ruined the last few chapters. For goodness sake invest in accent coaching. Any badly done accent is just plain cringe -worthy!

Too short, too simplified.

I have enjoyed all the previous books in the DCI Ryan Series, however, the length of the book did not do the plot justice…it fell flat at the end, and the reasoning and rationale weren’t quite fleshed out.
The ‘murder mystery’ came second in this book and at a big loss!
