Marine First Lieutenant Jacob Brown is bored.
For months he's been sitting around on an alien planet, waiting for command to recall his scout team so they could rest and be re-outfitted. The team went through hell during their previous mission, losing both their commanding officer and their ship. For now, Jacob was acting CO of Scout Team Obsidian and their ship was a broken down old surplus combat shuttle they'd stolen from narco-smugglers on a planet called Niceen-3.
When command finally does reach out, however, it isn't to order Obsidian home for some much needed r&r. Instead, they are being reactivated and sent out into the contested space of the recently conquered Eshquarian Empire to track down a single Terran cruiser called the Eagle's Talon.
The Talon's captain has gone rogue and is operating within a fleet of ships bent on open rebellion against the quadrant's only remaining superpower. If that ship is discovered within the rebel fleet, Earth will bear the brunt of the ConFed's reprisal. Jacob's team is in a race against time to locate the missing ship and her rogue captain so that a Navy strike force can swoop in and reclaim her...or destroy her.

Every Dads Worry
Why has he ended up being so much like me without being anywhere near me for most of his life...Dammit!!
A really terrific listen. So enjoying being dragged along with Team Obsidian and watching Jacob grow in his character.... but that damned ending!!
I now cannot wait to here the "Funny Story"....

Really Good Listen
Joshua Dalzelle is my favourite Military Science Fiction writer. Period. The worlds he creates, the banter, and the stories are excellent. I only wish that with the wealth of material they would make a series or movie trilogy of Jason Burke and Jacob Brown. It would be awesome. At least as good as The Expanse if not better. Can you imagine the viper as a character or Twingo, and Cage? How about Lucky?

funny story
love it. needed it want more and wow.
the story was awesome and where it is heading is amazing i cant wait to see what happens next. There are So many things to happen now. Joshua and Paul combo team for the win.

Rubbish.
This book is rubbish. The story lacks substance. The main characters are inept and stupid. How can people operate a team of so-called elite fighters that at nearly every moment find themselves attacked, ambushed, captured, and injuredm. Stupid story.
