About this listen

Bleak dreams are made of this...

The battle of Hammon's Bog is over. The town is free, the undead destroyed, the Witches slain, and the surviving villagers are picking up the remains of their lives. Despite his scars and constant nightmares, Brin is doing his best to move on from the battle against the undead. He's looking to the future, but his past might not be done with him yet.

Soon Brin will learn that not every Witch who tormented him is gone for good, and he won't be able to depend on Hogg and Lumina to protect him in places they cannot reach. He'll need to learn some new tricks, earn some new Skills, and stretch the limits of his Illusionist Class if he wants to survive.

cannot wait for more

Miles English and johnathan mclian is a combination that I have come to enjoy greatly. the book is dark and both comical and doesn't feel forced with the writing blending the two and the narrator able to bring life into the scenes. I cannot wait for more from this combo.

Brilliant but dark

Outstanding but I would prefer less torture. Preferably no torture at all. Great story otherwise. Very well written and narrated.

Absolutely loved it

The back and forth between the characters was excellent, made me laugh heaps in between the more serious parts of the stort. Looking forward to the next book

Narrator makes this hard to listen to

Johnathan McClain does it again. He has gotten into reading books like an actual crackhead, making everyones voice insane and ridiculously over-the-top like a 90s cartoon. He did the same thing to the noob series of books by a different author. The intonation of his speech turns even the important impactful parts of the book into a joke.. and not a funny one. I don't actually get why he'd read the whole thing like that. It detracts from the story.

If I could offer one peice of advice.. please.. please tone it down. You are such a good narrator, but this phase is doing no favours both to yourself and to the writer, who has spent so much time writing this book, just for you to approach every part of the book like a rambunctious radio play. I remember a lot of people agreed with that sentiment when you read the Noob series in the same way.. just.. get back to reading things with the emotion or seriousness that some of the scenes require. You can't make a book funny just by reading everything in a hyper exaggerated, sped up voice.

In conclusion, I hope the narrator reconsider the reading style for the next book in this series. If not, I don't know that I would buy book 4 or continue with this series.
