About this listen

He raises his saxophone, and the band fades into the background as he takes off on his own musical journey. She can’t take her eyes off him. It’s not his looks, though he is quite handsome. It’s his playing that captivates her. How the notes rise and fall at his command, floating magically from the stage straight to her heart.

It’s 1971 when two lives intersect at the annual Garland Grove Christmas Tree Lighting. Ellie is 16 and struggling to fit in after four years overseas. Danny is 19 and finding his place in the era of Vietnam. His saxophone brings them together, and for a few snowy days in December, their worlds are one. But it’s not meant to be. Circumstances push them apart. Danny is running from his past, and Ellie must return to Africa with her father.

Years go by. He settles on the quiet farm of his childhood. She finds success on a much larger stage, then loses it all. Both long for what could have been, but choose to leave the past alone. There are, however, a few people close to them who believe in love and the magic of Christmas. Will that be enough?
