Publisher's Summary
The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Blue Monday, the first in a fantastic new series from the masters of psychological thrillers, Nicci French. Read by the actress Beth Chalmers.
Monday, the lowest point of the week. A day of dark impulses. A day to snatch a child from the streets...
The abduction of five-year-old Matthew Farraday provokes national outcry and a desperate police hunt. And when his face is splashed over the newspapers, psychotherapist Frieda Klein is left troubled: one of her patients has been relating dreams in which he has a hunger for a child. A child he can describe in perfect detail, a child the spitting image of Matthew.
Detective Chief Inspector Karlsson doesn't take Frieda's concerns seriously until a link emerges with an unsolved abduction twenty years ago and he summons Frieda to interview the victim's sister, hoping she can stir hidden memories. Before long, Frieda is at the centre of the race to track the kidnapper. But her race isn't physical. She must chase down the darkest paths of a psychopath's mind to find the answers to Matthew Farraday's whereabouts. And sometimes the mind is the deadliest place to lose yourself.

Mature
This is a mature and sophisticated piece of writing. I loved this book and, while nothing is ever perfect, I can’t think of one negative thing that needs to be said about it. It’s the first in a series which really excites me. The story is well thought out and tangibly realistic, it will carry you along with ease. The characters are well rounded and though somewhat larger than life they aren’t ridiculous, which is just what is needed in good fiction. Highly recommend this book.

Absorbing.
I listened all weekend because the story is engrossing. The reader is good. The characterisations are well done. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Average
Average with an ending that didn't leave me satisfied. Too many average characters and a story line suited to a 4 part 1 hour episode tv mini-series. Not worth the 11 hour and 10 minutes listening...

Quality page turner
The underpinning psychology of this murder mystery is very interesting and seems very credible. It’s a page turner of quality.
The narrator does a very good job.

implausible but fun
if you can suspend your belief this is a fun crime romp! Don't question the plot or characters too closely and just enjoy it. The narrator destroyed the character of the police detective for me, but she was wonderful with all other characterisations, go figure!

Dreadful voices and a dull story
The reader performs different voices for each dull character and to say the least they are unbearable. I felt embarrassed listening.
