About this listen
Shetland Detective Jimmy Perez knows it will be a difficult homecoming when he returns to Fair Isle. It’s a community where strangers, while welcomed, are still viewed with a degree of mistrust. With the autumn storms raging, the island feels cut off from the rest of the world. Tempers among the trapped islanders become frayed. Enough to drive someone to murder?
When a body is discovered, the islanders react with fear. With no support from the mainland, Jimmy has to investigate the old-fashioned way. And with no way off the island until the storms abate, he knows he has to work quickly. There’s a killer on the island waiting for the opportunity to strike again....

A series to get lost it.
Great detective instalment in a must read series. Kenny Blyth’s narration is truly wonderful. First class entertainment.

Shetland islands
description of place and characters, and how the two interact throughout and within the story, is brilliant

Thoroughly enjoyed this, I think partly because I researched Fair Isle and so had a feel for the place and also because I love small communities in far flung places.
The story was interesting: the nature of obsession and what it can create; the impact of family dynamics and emotions. Anne Cleeves does this well generally and excelled in 'Blue Lightening'.
It's well paced with great characters and a fine narrator. I hope the next in the series is as good.
