Publisher's Summary
In this latest instalment of the number one New York Times best-selling series, FBI Agent Pendergast faces the strangest, most challenging puzzle of his career, when bodies - drained to the last drop of blood - begin appearing in Savannah, GA.
A fabulous heist: on the evening of November 24, 1971, D. B. Cooper hijacked Flight 305 - Portland to Seattle - with a fake bomb, collected a ransom of $200,000, and then parachuted from the rear of the plane, disappearing into the night...and into history.
A brutal crime steeped in legend and malevolence: 50 years later, Agent Pendergast takes on a bizarre and gruesome case: in the ghost-haunted city of Savannah, Georgia, bodies are found with no blood left in their veins - sowing panic and reviving whispered tales of the infamous Savannah Vampire.
A case like no other: As the mystery rises along with the body count, Pendergast and his partner, Agent Coldmoon, race to understand how - or if - these murders are connected to the only unsolved skyjacking in American history. Together, they uncover not just the answer...but an unearthly evil beyond all imagining.

Narrator botched the characters
I love the entire Pendergast series, and obviously there are some narrators whom I prefer to others to do the characters justice, but in this case I was literally stunned.
Not only does he make Constance Green sound like a bad broadcasting voice from the 30’s, but Pendergast is at times so “smooth” that you have to strain to hear what is being read.
I loved the story as all the others, but the narration made it almost unbearable at times.

TERRIBLE TIMBRE
I know this narrator is famous for his TV voice but keep him away from Audible books. I didnt know wheather to turn it up or turn it down but could never find a happy medium. He would lull you into relax mode then make you JUMP! with every few words being LOUD!. This book reading is turning me into a NERVOUS WRECK! He is LIKE A PREACHER!, trying to make his audience stay awake THROUGH A BORING SERMON!, except the book itself isnt boring, it is good, like the rest of them. The NARRATOR! absolutely RUINS! this book.

Disappointed
I have read all the Pendagast stories in hard copy, however this and the previous book were audible books. I have listened to many audible books, but narration on this book did my head in. Narration was a low , soft drawl, then suddenly loud when portraying a person saying something. Constantly turning volume up and down, or replaying to hear what had been said .

Story
Story is probably good, Narrator hard to hear.
Usually love these, have to give up on this one as the narrator goes way too low for the accents. I have to have it up high to hear the low and then nearly kill my ears when he goes back to the main voices.

Great story, however........
Another great story in this magnificent series, however, I did struggle with the narrator. Nothing against the narrator personally, he just isn't suited to this series. And as for the overproduction, e.g. Background music and sound effects; these just aren't necessary and made it disconcerting to concentrate on the story. If you're a fan on the series, it's worth struggling through it for the awesome story.
