Publisher's Summary
From USA Today best-selling author Rina Kent comes a new dark mafia romance.
I’m out for revenge. He’s out to rule the world.
Kirill and I are as different as day and night. We shouldn’t have been in the same frame or universe.
But we meet under the strangest circumstances.
He’s my superior in the military and the man who’ll introduce me to carnage.
His charm and exterior perfection shouldn’t have tempted me.
Behind the smokescreen lurks a manipulative emotionless monster.
And that monster might find out all my secrets, including the reason why I’m pretending to be a man.
He might also lure me to the point of no return.
This book is part of a trilogy and can't be listened to on its own.

Cliffhanger finish!
This book was well written and had some decent laughs. The combination of Sebastian York 🥵 and the duet narration was 👌. The female narrator’s attempt at a male voice kept flipping between low and husky and… like, not trying. It made the listen confusing and jarring at times.
Do I believe that a female would be conscripted into the military and not only would everyone buy the gender swap, but no one would accidentally find out over the course of 18 months? No. Did it stop me from listening? Also no.
This book was a slow burn, of which, my impatient little 🍑 is not the biggest fan. The miscommunication trope is strong with this one and the book creates more questions than it answers, but I guess that’s to be expected with the first book in a series. Otherwise, a good book, with an OMG a cliffhanger finish!! Can't wait for the next book

Kirill is perfection and Aleksandra is perfect foe him
Book 1 of the Monster Trilogy, and it set up everything so well.
Kirill was just perfection in his obsession with Aleksandra, and Aleksandra was so gutsy and determined and the perfect march for Kirill.
I enjoyed the way their relationship developed and can't wait to see what happens next after that cliffhanger.
I read on Kindle and read along on Audible with great duet style audio.

Great Story
Another enjoyable story from Rina Kent. I really liked the duet style of narration. Both narrators were amazing. Looking forward to Books 2 and 3.

The beginning of their story is awesome
I read this series for the plot. Now I can here you sniggering, thinking this is one of those memes where the plot is then some hunky beast that you want to climb like a tree (fictionally of course). Well ... no.
Don’t get me wrong, there was a hunky main character and in the beginning he even had those swoony qualities I like to theoretically drool over. Kirill was what main characters are made from and objectionably I can see the allure. This however, was not why I kept reading, frankly the love connection was somewhat lacking in my opinion. I can kind of see why Sasha would be enamoured, he was a great fighter, wealthy, head of the mafia-like thingy, ambitious. Sure.
On the flipside, it kind of felt like Sasha could have been anyone for Kirill, as long as she was happy to be choked with a belt during intercourse, he was going to be on board. Not that there is anything wrong with that particular desire, it’s just that it felt like it didn’t go any further than that. Three books and I could not list three things either of them liked about the other.
Enough about that though - the plot, the stuff in the background was actually kind of great. There were lots of twists and turns. So many lies, so much betrayal, so many hidden identities, hidden love interests.
So as utterly unbelievable it may be, these books were actually read for the plot!

Save your money
I listened because I was curious how the author would pull off a female posing as a male in the army or "military institution," as she called it. She did not. It was too farcical that none of the other soldiers realised she was not male. Did they not notice her chest binding and no facial hair growth or that she had to pee sitting down, and how did she shower? Dyed hair and a put on voice wouldn't fool anyone. And a Captain in charge of that battle thing with the insurgents...really? And joining the army to get answers to her family's massacre ...and climbing the ranks .... seriously.
