About this listen
THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Step into the Coliseum at the Spartan War Academy where monsters are made, immortality is won, and even a god can die…
Alexis Hert isn’t a hero, and she certainly isn’t a god. All she’s ever been is a survivor.
But the Fates disagree.
When a blood test leads to her admittance at the Spartan War Academy, she’ll have to do more than merely survive.
Alexis will have to claim her birthright: immortality.
But immortality is a privilege, one earned in the crucible of the academy, where the heroes are villains and classrooms battlegrounds. While gladiators Achilles and Patro, her demanding mentors, hone her into a warrior, Augustus and Kharon, her professors and the brooding heirs to the underworld, haunt her steps and her thoughts.
Because where there are gods, there are bound to be monsters, and there is more than one hunting Alexis…

Amazing narrator
I absolutely love this author and have been waiting for this book for a while now and I'm so happy it met my expectations. I wish this author had more books published. The narration was just perfect. Alexis is loveable asf

Different and I loved it ❤️
I found this book at a time where I needed to get lost in another world. I fell in love with the protagonist, relating to her pain and endurance. I laughed and cried with her and in a way, her being strong, encouraged me to be so too. Thank you for a unique and interesting story, I can't wait for book two!

I AM LIVID WITH ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!
Where to begin!? The female narrator for the book did an absolutely amazing job, honestly the best narration I have come across in fantasy novels. The first chapter is the voice of Fate not our darling Alexis, don’t panic.
The main character Alexis is absolutely hilarious. Her thoughts and emotions are relatable and smiling-outloud-entertaining. She has depth and personality that will leave you feeling protective over her and frowning at any and all stupidity thrown her way. You will absolutely LOVE her best friend, Nix, and if you say you won’t then you’re a liar or a fool. This isn’t one of the those books where you figure out exactly what the hidden identities and plot is in the first chapter. I was honestly in the dark until everything was revealed.
In terms of spice this book if definitely more plot than spice but my darling there is Tension with a capital T. This is not fluff, this is dark. I’m talking eye contact, possessive touch and language, ‘I’ll kill anyone who so much as looks at you’, ‘is this morally grey or simply charcoal void black?’, I guess you’ll find out. This is a why choose (but with a very important twist that you’ll understand when you stop reading this and start listening). You will be questioning who her love interests are…. for a while.
The storyline had me hooked for the first half of the book and then it did grow a touch stagnant as the Alexis’s routine repeated and sanity drastically declined, it made the story hard to follow and swallow. Once finishing I can see this is clearly intentional and adds to the storyline. But for a hot minute I felt I was in a depressive state. You will question her and then yourself, it’s A okay to go touch grass and hug a tree if you need a break, but do return. Although, if you can, just be a champ and keep listening.
If you are like me and felt like giving up towards the end because of shear misery and anguish, keep pushing forward. It will all make sense soon and you will boil with the rage of the sun ❤️
I absolutely adored listening to this story and I did devour it in 24 hours (it would have been less but a stupid mundane activity called work got in the way)
Upon finding out that I now must wait until October 2025 to see Alexis reck havoc upon her enemies, I will be putting myself into a self induced coma.
The book ends on a soft cliffhanger. There are many detailed strings left untied for the next book, which leave juicy suspicions and fantasies that I’m praying will fuel me for the next 8 months.
If you read all that you should just buy the book. TikTok was not joking about how good this book is, and neither am I.

Great book. Languages needs a little work
The pronunciation of the words could have been a little better. But love the story!

love this take on hercules
I loved this story when I read it! love the narrators who did this story, but it's a shame it's duel and not duet. it's got such heartbreaking backstory for Alexis but her internal thoughts are so funny to read! loved the mmc's and the mentions of "Karen" haha! I can't wait to hear more about Achilles, love a mysterious masked man!!

Absolutely Loved it!!!!
As a Gen X'er, saying I appreciated the sarcasm in the writing of this author is an understatement!!! The story had me absolutely gripped from the first chapter! As a low visual reader I rely on Audible for my book obsession, Meg Sylvan read this into absolute reality for me! Had me in cackles, tears, heart break and every emotion possible. Absolutely recommend!!! Have Pre-Ordered the next and can not wait!!!!!!
