About this listen

She was taken against her will.

On her fifteenth birthday, trafficking victim Affi Smith goes for a run and never returns. With a new identity and secure home in the Scottish Highlands, she was supposed to be safe…

She escaped once.

With personal ties to Affi’s case, DS Max Craigie joins the investigation. When he discovers other trafficking victims have disappeared in exactly the same circumstances, he knows one thing for certain – there’s a leak somewhere within law enforcement.

She won’t outrun them again.

The clock is ticking… Max must catch Affi’s kidnappers and expose the mole before anyone else goes missing. Even if it means turning suspicions onto his own team…

a great read with all the feels. excellent storyline with horrifically sad undertones of people trafficking. we see how easily people get swept up in corruption after making poor choices. I enjoy all of the characters on the team - especially Ross Boss and Barney- geeze, at one part I had to sneak a listen while I was at work to get to the other side of a particularly tense situation- lol. I admire the skilled narration of Angus King aided of course by the superb writing of Neil Lancaster.
one day I hope to visit Scotland, a country my ancestors left to emigrate to New Zealand,

a story told with such superb expression that the narrative itself seamlessly connects with the greater, universal yet always unique human experience. This story connected with my own very different yet deeply connected unfolding human story. Good and evil, love and hatred, hope and threat, joy and shame, that are part of broken corporate humanity. I am deeply appreciative for taking me on this provocative and authentic journey with revelations that remain beyond the final chapter.

magnificent
