Publisher's Summary
Book 12 in the Gaunt's Ghosts Series
An enemy prisoner demands to speak to Gaunt, throwing the Tanith First into a murderous web of secrets and lies that could decide the fate of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
Follow the intrigue as, even on leave, Gaunt's Ghosts find themselves in trouble... A dangerous enemy prisoner will only speak to Gaunt (who's apparently dead, if Imperial records are to be believed), and the Ghosts find themselves mixed up with mysterious criminal gangs.
THE STORY
The Tanith First have been pulled back from the front line and are enjoying some well-deserved rest – but that is about to end. An enemy prisoner – one of the deadly Blood Pact – wants to betray his masters, but he will only talk to Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt. Can he be trusted, and what exactly does he know? Gaunt must discover the truth and avert a deadly threat to both his own life and to the Sabbat Worlds Crusade itself.

Another action packed ghosts’ novel
Thrilling cover to cover, as always with this series. Sharply written by Dan Avnet, plenty of tension and some nice resolutions from the previous book

Same crew, new setting
Another fantastic book, can easily call this series my comfort listen by now. Love the characters and story. A nice change of setting and mission in this book, an imperial city packed with not-so-lively inhabitants with an old archenemy friend returning. Fantastic narration by Toby, he is the voice of the ghosts, I really hope he narrates a rerelease of Salvation’s Reach and The Warmaster, I’d buy those in an instant.

Awesome story
Loved the story, lots of twists, very different from the usual gaunt ghosts happening in a city with a flashback of gaunt 15y before and an incursion from the blood pact

On the run
Really liked the change in tone compared to the last book, which for me was hard to get into. Some reactions from the characters I found hard to buy, but it's the 41st millennium and there is only war… so what do I know.
Awesome book and Toby kills it as usual. 9/10 will listen again.

Intense, great characters, excellent pacing
A wonderful entry into the series. I loved the continued expansion of Blood Pact/chaos lore, the tension of the chase, and immersive history this novel adds to the overall campaign, Gaunt himself, and hints are the future story arcs.

Part chase and underworld folly
Lots of fun for fans. Excellent narration and a bit more dark humour in this one. Recommend
