About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the first novel in a compelling trilogy about three brothers bound by fate, blood, and a timeless enemy.

In the town of Hawkins Hollow, it’s called The Seven. Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to The Pagan Stone...

It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins - descendant of the town founders - has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on a stranger as well.

Reporter Quinn Black came to Hawkins Hollow hoping to make its eerie happenings the subject of her new book. She too can see the evil the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town - and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, they will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a desire that will grow and form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness…

Loved story. The voices of female was a bit grating. Put me off a bit . But carried on regardless. Love your writing. X

A captivating paranormal story.

This is quite different from other Nora Roberts stories that I have read to date with the strong paranormal story line, however it still contains all the things that we know and love about her work. The female voices almost ruin the performance, luckily the rest of the performance is very strong and entertaining.

Enjoyable

Great start to the trilogy and the story got you in so that you had to listen to all 3. The narrator was okay not so good with Quinn’s voice made her a but cocky and annoying but the story was so good you got past it!

So many similarities to other series.

I do enjoy rereading and now listening to this trilogy, with its very likeable and entertaining characters and very interesting storyline.
Read quite a few times as I enjoy these characters and the story itself.
So many similarities between these characters and those in Key trilogy though.
Blonde leading heroine and the silly dog in book one plus other things that come out as one reads.
A major plot point in book two, which I really dislike and cannot agree with, which is not thought out for the long term future of any children involved, loses one star.

AUDIBLE 23
Apart from the observations included in this review, I enjoyed listening to this series but found the narration just off with the female voices. Not the narrator’s fault as he has to do THREE main female voices and make them differentiate from each other.
So many similarities between these characters and those in the Key trilogy.
Lots of the same style of scenes and descriptions by this author.
Pretty much the same words and actions and the same way of stating things. Even having the blonde heroine and the silly dog. The lead heroine stating she is in love with the hero very quickly was just like Mallory does in the Key series.
The sex scenes were very reminiscent of Eve Dallas and Roarke having sex in the In Death series.
BOOK REVIEW
Most recently read in the box set. I do enjoy rereading this trilogy with its very likeable and entertaining characters and very interesting storyline.
Read quite a few times as I enjoy these characters and the story itself. Reviewed years ago but reviews are missing.
Three boys from different families and backgrounds but born on the same day at the same time, whilst out camping, make a blood oath and unleash a demon.
This is all meant to be and the whys are explained as this story unfolds. More specifically in book three when everything is bought to a conclusion.
To bring everything to a nice balance, we get three intelligent women thrown into the mix and the reasons they are included were very intriguing. They of course pair up with the three men.
I can tell you about this book but you will want to read all three to understand the story and its complexities anyway.

How do I explain this book?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy, love, life, and small country towns that hold the secret's, the terror and horror of magic and the paranormal, BUT it's SET in very realistic surroundings, very unlike many other books that branch into these subjects of lore, rite and magic. I think this is why I loved it so much. It also holds a lost coming of age. I don't know how to place it in any kind of genre though :) It could be a romance novel, horror story, or a paranormal magic spin, but how ever you perceive or enjoy any of these topics, this is one of the best I have ever read of it's kind. I love general novels, fantasy, sci fi, horror. A huge mix of topics and genre's, but this is a fantastic listen if you like this sort of thing. It's like a music mash up of all your favourites but written into a magical story.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself, yeah ok there is a small cheese factor but once past this the dialogue and quick witted retorts and responses from characters could have fallen straight out of the mouths of my friends which kept me laughing, some actually were and the way the were placed into the context of speech, made me think I recognised friends traits in their words and actions.

Have you listened to any of Phil Gigante’s other performances? How does this one compare?

He was great. I'm a big fan.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, I think I did, it was either this one or book 2.
