About this listen
A propulsive new thriller set in London featuring Detective Harbinder Kaur from the author of the No 1 bestselling Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries. A murderer hides in plain sight—in the police.
DS Caitlin Fitzgerald has a secret—but it's one she's deleted from her memory. In the 1990s when she was at school, she and her friends killed a fellow pupil. Thirty years later, Caitlin is happily married and loves her job as a police officer.
One day her husband persuades her to go to a school reunion and another ex-pupil, Garfield Rice, is found dead, supposedly from a drug overdose. As Garfield was an eminent Labour MP and the investigation is high profile, it's headed by Caitlin's new boss, DI Harbinder Kaur. The trouble is, Caitlin can't shake the feeling that one of her old friends has killed again.
Is Caitlin right, or was Garfield murdered by one of his political cronies? It's in Caitlin's interest to skew the investigation so that it looks like the latter and she seems to be succeeding.
Until someone else is killed....

disappointed
This is the third in the Harbinder Kaur police procedural series, not that you would know it as the blurb makes no mention of the first two books, both written some time ago. First is The Stranger Diaries, second is The Postscript murders, I did listen to them but didn't find them riveting, so why, you might ask, did I bother reading this one? Well, Ruth Galloway series is coming to an end and I "heard" on Twitter that this will be replacing it, I thought it might grow on me, obviously not!
I just found the characters to be uninteresting, I couldn't connect with any of them and I never gave them one single thought once I finished the book.
If there is a fourth and I can get it from my library, I might give it a go, I loved the Ruth Galloway series and I loved the Locked Room so maybe I expected too much
Narration was pretty good, but not so much the accents!

Disappointing for an Elly Griffiths
The plot is banal but worst aspect is narrators’ voices. All way too girly. Don’t think I can finish this.

Another ripper of a story
Elly has again pulled us willingly into another world of intrigue and mystery. What a great story. She has just the right amount of glimpses into the shadowy world of murder. Can’t wait for more

Have read this author before - was interested
l followed the initial Ruth Gallaway series for a bit so was interested in this new book.
l have tried several times to listen to the convoluted story but have given up as l did eventually with her Gallaway series.
Get it on loan from your library
