About this listen

Kullen is the emperor’s assassin. The sharp hand of justice. The Black Talon.

Gifted a soul-forged bond with his dragon, Umbris, Kullen is tasked with hunting any and all who oppose the empire.

But when the secretive Crimson Fang murders two noblemen before his very eyes, Kullen must discover the truth of who they are and what they want. What he uncovers is a web of lies and deceit spiraling into the depths of Dimvein.

Natisse, a high-ranking member of the rebellion known as the Crimson Fang, has no greater goal than to rid Dimvein of power-hungry nobles. Haunted by her past, fire, flames, and the death of her parents, she sets out to destroy the dragons and those who wield them as unstoppable weapons of destruction.

Until she, too, finds herself buried beneath the weight of the revelations her investigations reveal.... The empire is under siege from within, and one man, dressed in black like the night, stands at the epicenter of it all.

Black Talon is the first book in Dragonblood Assassin from number one Audible and Washington Post best seller Jaime Castle and epic-fantasy legend Andy Peloquin, perfect for fans of the Forgotten Realms, Joe Abercrombie, David Dalglish, and Kel Kade.

Just finished this series it was for me thoroughly enjoyable. Very well read by the two narrators.

It’s action packed and full of mystery and adventure. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading epic fantasy books, with some magic thrown into it. There are dragons, assassins, corrupt elites, suffering civilians and secret societies. The story is filled with mystery and intrigue, loads of awesome fighting scenes and ending on a cliffhanger. Looking forward to continuing this adventure with book two.

A wonderfully written narrative which Is engrossing and engaging.
Certainly an exciting plot and interesting characters. Great narration too.

An engrossing story

Parts of the story, especially Kullen’s (that talent and power!), had me up listening so late into the night in anticipation (so many cliffhanger chapter endings!) that one night only the sunrise through the curtains brought me back into reality, as I reluctantly hit pause to sleep.

Others, usually Nat’s, whilst important for character/world building, on occasion made me want to fast forward.

But the turn for turn design of the chapters was a great choice, each filling in gaps in the others stories that made you wish they’d just meet and share intel. The author’s even give a sly nod to this in one of Kullen’s later chapters - “If only you two had shared what you had known…” - but stuck well to the steadily rising pace, creating a palpable air of mistrust along with it as each answer brought more questions.

I wouldn’t read it again, but am very glad I did and eagerly await a sequel.

Fantastic narration, great battle sequences, story 10% slow/repetitive/predictable, 90% absolutely enthralling
