About this listen

Black sheep - there's one in every family...

Orphaned at sixteen, James Wakefield was determined to be a gun shearer like his father. Now he's killed twice, changed his name, and is on the run from the law.

He had his reasons for both murders, and he felt no joy in taking life. Or did he?

Ben McKinnon, meanwhile, is heir to the vast Glenfinnan sheep property near Goulburn, New South Wales. He too has a secret that, if ever revealed, would shatter the privileged lives of his father, Alastair, and his sisters, Jenna and Adele.

When fate brings James and Ben together, a powerful friendship is forged, both men gladly becoming the keeper of the other's secret.

Then Ben insists his new friend come to work at Glenfinnan Station. Has James finally found the family he's always longed for? Or has the McKinnon dynasty just unwittingly adopted a black sheep?

From the Shearing Wars of Queensland to the close colonial community of Goulburn, to the trenches of the Western Front, Judy Nunn once again brings Australian history vividly to life.

All of it

Liked it all I don’t want to type 15 words. It was the best that should be said.

Fast paced.

Loved it up until chapter 18 and then it reminded me of another of this authors books that touched on war profiteering and I lost interest.
Sad that the apple didn't fall far from the tree with Josh.😣

Black Sheep

Enjoyed the shearing history of the book and description of the towns featured in the story. I think the narrator needing to be younger.

Terrible

Sorry Judy...hated it, but persisted to find something to like. Historical detail factual and interesting. maybe it was the narrator..? even the females characters sounded awful. Ben seemed to be the only nice person. James certainly got his just rewards. A story full of lust, corruption and violence if you like that sort of thing.. no happy ending and hopefully no follow up story. I usually enjoy your books... disappointed!!!! Maybe I'm getting to be a prude, but just too much evil in this story for me.

Quite a good story but..

I enjoyed this yarn but it didn't seem to have a defined plot. The ending was a bit predictable and left me feeling there was more to come. Don't get me wrong it's definitely worth listening to and it is enjoyable, it just doesn't have a crescendo or a moment of truth. The story just follows along until it ends.
The narrator was great, an excellent choice for this style of story.

I really enjoyed the story. I learned lots and it was very interesting. The story was multifaceted and had great characters.

The story is average. Poor Bruce is too old to read the story.

I’m a few hours into the story but I’ve now quit. I can’t cope with Bruce reading. I know she must live him but not the right choice 😩

Good story constantly being ruined

I disliked how often story lines were good then stopped dead in the tracks, unnecessary killings, murders etc, worst book from one of my favourite authors. Needs a fresher voiced storyteller as well.
