About this listen
Birds Without Wings tells of the inhabitants of a small coastal town in South West Anatolia in the dying days of the Ottoman empire: the local Potter and fount of proverbial wisdom; a Christian girl of legendary beauty; childhood friends who play in the hills above the town, and the two holy men of different faiths, who greet each other with the words 'infidel efendi'.

loved it!
Very long and some chapters felt like a history lesson, but the wonderful characters were brought to life by the beautiful narration making me want to keep listening to hear their stories. Funny, sad, poignant. I come away understanding more about a region and time in history I knew little about, and how events there have had such a profound and reververating effect globally, while catastrophically impacting and changing the lives of ordinary people.

Terrific!
Definitely a book for those who enjoy the journey. Wry humour, beautifully written and an interesting perspective on historical events.

Too long
Great storytelling and characterisation but waaay to long and repetitive and too many tangents. I stuck with it till the end but it wasn’t enjoyable
